What types of gTLD strings have raised government concerns in the past?

This content is available only in English Language

While there is no fixed definition of a "sensitive" string, during the 2012 Round of the New gTLD Program, the GAC indicated that concerns may arise for strings that:

  • Represent or reference groups based on nationality, race or ethnicity, culture, religion, belief, language, political opinion, age, disability, or social identity
    • Relate to regulated sectors (such as finance or health)
    • Target populations or industries vulnerable to online fraud or abuse

While this list of examples is non-exhaustive, applicants may take this information into account when determining whether or how to respond to a GAC Member Early Warning.
