Criterion 2: Documentation for Demonstrating Equivalence

An applicant seeking one or more allocatable variant strings should provide proof that the word is recognized as equivalent by the intended user community by demonstrating that the entry in the dictionary for the variant string has a synonymous meaning to the primary string in the relevant language. If the meaning in the dictionary is not synonymous within or across the language of the variant and primary strings, the applicant should include an explanation of how the meanings align. For example, the applicant could explain how the meaning in slang is evidence of use and meaning with appropriate references.
