Criterion 1: Documentation for Meaning or Intended Meaning of the String

An applicant seeking one or more allocatable variant strings motivated by reasons beyond lexical meaning should include the following information with their application:

  • The motivation for using such a variant string (e.g., a simplified version commonly typed on ASCII keyboards by the relevant community when special characters are not available).
  • Evidence that the variant string is used in the language with the intended meaning (e.g., through evidence of frequency of use from a corpus of the language in a certain context, or other relevant evidence from referenceable source(s)).
