Why does name collision matter for new gTLD applicants?

This content is available only in English Language

Any new gTLD introduced into the DNS has the potential to overlap with names already used in private or alternative naming systems. Because these overlaps could potentially have severe negative consequences to different stakeholders, every applied-for string and its allocatable variant strings must undergo the Name Collision Initial Assessment before moving forward in the application process.
