What are the components of String Evaluation?

String Evaluation consists of five components:

  1. Safeguard Assessment: Determines whether a string requires specific Safeguard Public Interest Commitments (Safeguard PICs) as contractual requirements for issues such as consumer protection, sensitive strings, or regulated markets. Learn more.
  2. Geographic Names Identification: Identifies strings that may be considered Geographic Names. Learn more
  3. Singular/Plural Notification Evaluation: Determines whether specific, identified strings represent singular and plural forms of the same word in the same language; this follows a notification that ICANN receives from the public concerning these strings. Learn more.
  4. String Similarity Evaluation: Checks whether strings are Visually Similar to mitigate the risk of user confusion and protect trust in the DNS. Learn more.
  5. Name Collision Initial Assessment: Evaluates whether a string could cause name collisions. If an applied-for string is identified as creating a high risk of Name Collision, the applicant may propose a Mitigation Plan for evaluation in order to proceed in the program. Learn more
