Is there a way for my organization to provide registry services for an existing gTLD once I clear RSP evaluation?

Last Updated: October 2026

Yes, a registry operator of an existing generic top-level domain (gTLD) can request a change to the Registry Service Provider (RSP) supporting the gTLD. This is considered a change to the Material Subcontracting Arrangement (MSA) and must follow the requirements set forth in the Registry Agreement and the process described here: https://www.icann.org/en/contracted-parties/registry-operators/services/material-subcontracting-arrangement-change.

Note although the Technical Evaluation and Simulation Exercise are described in the MSA process linked above as requirements for Unknown RSPs (i.e., RSPs that do not currently support one or more generic top-level domains), successfully evaluated 2026 Round Registry Service Providers (RSPs) will *not* need to undergo such Technical Evaluation or Simulation Exercise requirements.
