Opportunities to Participate in the New gTLD Program

Organizations can participate in the new gTLD Program in several ways, depending on their business model and long-term goals.

A generic top-level domain (gTLD) is an important digital resource. It enables businesses, brands, geographic regions, and organizations to create a dedicated online space for customers, constituents, employees, and partners. Operating a gTLD requires significant financial resources, technical expertise, and the ability to meet rigorous operational standards.

To help broaden participation, ICANN created the Applicant Support Program (ASP). The ASP provides financial and capacity development to eligible entities that may otherwise face barriers to applying for and operating a gTLD.

Organizations that provide technical backend services can participate in ICANN's Registry Service Provider Evaluation Program (RSP). The Registry Service Provider (RSP) Evaluation Program is intended to reduce the cost and time involved in evaluating new gTLDs by separating the assessment of the technical aspects of operating a gTLD from the application for the gTLD label.
