2026 Round Applicant Journey

The New gTLD Program: 2026 Round Applicant Journey covers initial preparation to delegation of your gTLD in the 2026 Round. Each stage includes what happens, what you need to do, and how the TLD Application Management System (TAMS) supports you at that point in the process.

New gTLD Applicant Journey

Pre-evaluation ICANN publishes application information on Reveal Day, then opens the String Replacement Period for eligible applicants, followed by String Confirmation Day. (page coming soon)
Community input, objections and appeals After String Confirmation Day, the public and groups with standing can submit feedback about specific applications. (page coming soon)
String evaluation Evaluations of your applied-for string and any allocatable variant strings conducted to confirm they are technically sound and compliant with policy. (page coming soon)
Contention set resolution If your applied-for string is identical or similar to another application, it will be placed in a contention set. ICANN facilitates resolution through Community Priority Evaluation (CPE), or an ICANN Auction. This stage only applies if your string is in contention. (page coming soon)
Applicant and application evaluation Evaluations of your organization and application conducted from an operational and financial standpoint. Background screening of key personnel takes place at this stage. (page coming soon)
Contracting Successful applicants sign a 2026 Base Registry Agreement with ICANN. This defines your rights, obligations, and technical standards as a registry operator. (page coming soon)
Onboarding and delegation After signing the 2026 Base Registry Agreement, complete technical onboarding to ICANN systems and pass technical testing. (page coming soon)
