Can a supported applicant obtain additional funding or investment and continue to maintain its applicant status?

This content is available only in English Language

Yes. Supported applicants may seek additional funding after qualifying for support. Receiving additional funding or investment does not automatically affect their eligibility for support.

What are the continued eligibility requirements?

To continue receiving support, applicants must continue to meet the eligibility requirements outlined in the ASP Handbook, including the financial need criteria. These criteria include thresholds of USD 5 million for annual revenue and cash and cash equivalents, as well as applicable ownership and control requirements.

Under the ASP Terms and Conditions, supported applicants are required to notify ICANN of material changes to information provided in their ASP application that may affect their eligibility for support, including changes to their financial circumstances, ownership, or control.

When might ICANN review continued eligibility?

ICANN reserves the right to review a supported applicant's continued eligibility throughout the application process and may request additional information or clarification as needed. Reviews may occur in connection with application change requests, or before providing subsequent ASP financial benefits, including fee reductions for eligible conditional evaluations, an auction bid credit, and/or reduced registry operator fees. ICANN may also review continued eligibility if new information indicates that an applicant's circumstances may have changed.

If ICANN determines that an applicant no longer meets the eligibility requirements, the applicant will not be eligible to receive subsequent ASP financial benefits. The applicant may still continue with its gTLD application, subject to the applicable requirements and fees.

How does the auction bid credit work?

For an ICANN auction, thebid credit is up to 35 percent of the winning price, capped at USD 1.75 million. The applicable percentage decreases for winning prices above USD 5 million, as outlined in Section 5.6.5 of the 2026 Round Applicant Guidebook.
